London Downloadable

In the spirit of sharing local quirks, I’ve got all the Forest City MP3s you can handle. With a population of about 360 000, my home London Ontario can be summarized as “2 hours from Toronto or Detroit”. Musically it’s best known for it’s long gone punk scene, which taunts today’s rock deprived Londoners at The London Ontario Punk Rock Scarchives. While not punk, the most well known acts to emerge from the toxic Thames include Guy Lombardo (streaming realaudio, slowed for your enjoyment) and the WFMU favorite, The Nihilist Spasm Band (streaming realaudio).

You sure as hell don’t want to come here today, so if you really want a taste of London get your plug-ins ready and head on over to CHRW’s London Music Archive which features tons (or tonnes) of complete albums in glorious MP3 from all the big and small acts ranging from 1967 to today.

Must have albums on the site are:

The Nihilist Spasm Band - Vol. 2

The Nihilist Spasm Band - Every Monday Night

The Nihilist Spasm Band = 7x~x=x

The Nihilist Spasm Band - Live in Japan

63 Monroe - Stinkin' Up The Joint (Maybe the greatest London album ever)

The Demics - Talk's Cheap

The Demics - The Demics

The Ledgend Killers - Better Than Hammerin'

The Legend Killers - The Legend Killers

The Napalm Babys - Who Cares About The Devil

Go ahead and check it all out and don’t skip the dozen or so What Wave compilations.
Next Time: Guelph Ontario. Brace yourself, Guelph isn't just another word for barf.

Very cool Jeff! I went to law school at Western in the late 80's-early '90s and even did a bit of stuff at CHRW. I fondly remember listening to all kinds of cool stuff at the legendary "Call the Office." Does it still exist?

Yes, Call he Office is still around and still the best spot in the city for live bands.

hooray london!

i am also a londoner and an rw volunteer

do you do a show? i'm mondays 330-6pm.

Hey hey! Go Forest City! London is a great place to have live shows - I love going to call the office specifically for that purpose. Infact, I think I'll meander down there and see what's doin' tonight.

Has anyone heard of 'The Della Roccas' or 'The Delia Roccas' I think thats their name. I heard this band recently... I would like to check them out again in Camden (when or if they are ever there next) Anyone heard of or know them?

The awesome Della Roccas are playing the Black Sheep in Croydon on Wednesday 26th October. Their website is now online - www.thedellaroccas.com

The Della Roccas are playing the Purple turtle in camden on the 1st November too. See you there!

Yup I know these. My new fav band. Saw them first at 93 Feet East in Dec. Impresive stuff! Might see them again in Jan at the Half Moon. My iPod has all their tunes on! Viva Della Rocca!

Not going to beleive this! I heard the della roccas are breaking up. Isnt there anything we can do to change this?
