The Beatles Gone Bollywood (video)

Indian_beatles2 Check our this Bollywood take on The Beatles I Wanna Hold Your Hand: [download video, 19 megs, mpeg format or streamed via youtube here]. The choreography and photography are reminiscent of the Jan Pehechanho dance number that opens the film Ghost World, which Brian posted here. I guess the quartet of dancing guitarists is some kind of Bollywood archetype. The lyrics here also go off in a completely different direction - lines like "And When I Touch You, I Feel Happy Inside" come out in Hindi as:

Look, No One Knows Yet
My Heart Loves You
We Meet Because of Destiny
We Also Create False Promises

This is an excerpt from the 1999 1965 Bollywood film Jaanwar, in which the song went by the title Tumse Hai Dil Ko. Thanks Brian, via Michael S!

1965 not 1999. Two different films.

It bears remembering that Stig O'Hara, the George Harrison avatar in The Rutles, was played by a south Asian actor, who had been a Beach Boy during their brief fling with progressive rock in the early 70s.

Ricky Fataar was South African and so was Blondie Chaplin who were with the Beach Boys for the "Holland" LP. Ricky's "All You Need Is Cash" characterization was a spoof of Harrison's Eastern interests.

Actually, I think Jaan Pehechan Ho is from Jaanwar too.

Oops, wrong movie. Jaan Pehechan Ho seems to be originally from Gumnaam. Sorry about that.
