I saw Flipper this past month at North Six. I wasn't disappointed, though I have to say the openers Pissed Jeans completely killed and you should go anywhere you can to see their action. I mean, any band whose singer describes their sound as the music equivalent of a toilet flushing is already near and dear to my heart, but these gents deliver a good brainflossing ala mid-era Black Flag and most certainly Stickmen With Rayguns. What also kills: these MP3s of Flipper live on KALX in 1981 during the Will Shatter days. Man. Hold onto yer hats, everybody. "I Saw You Shine" (MP3), "Way of the World" (MP3) "Nothing" (MP3), "Shed No Tears" (MP3), "Life Is Cheap" (MP3), "Love Canal" (MP3), "Ha Ha Ha" (MP3). Some vintage visual misanthropy on You Tube here, (also check out the interview with Mordam's Ruth Schwartz) and it looks like someone popped some of that recent North Six show up as well. Can we get Generic back in print now? (Pic: Neil Motteram)

Hey Brian, Pissed Jeans are playing Northsix tonight (9/11! Never Forget!) with Boris and Pearls and Brass!

Love Flipper..."Gone Fishin'" needs to get reprinted too.....love that record....
I too have sung deaths praises
bur I'm not gonna sing that song no more
because I found out what living is all about
and it's life
life
life is the only thing that we're living for...

I thought it was "Life is the only thing WORTH living for"...
There's a difference. I don't have the album around so I can't check that.

These mp3's are like manna from Heaven - I want all the vintage live Flipper I can get - but the song listed as "Nothing" up there isn't that song at all! It's "You Nought Me," from "Gone Fishin'," a completely different and even better song.

Generic was relesed on CD by some label a few years ago. I still see it every once and awhile, so I'm not sure if it's in print or not. I'm thinking it was (Def) American that released it, which would make sense.

The one you have listed as "Nothing" is actually "You Nought Me."

I just found this on a radio search and aren't these mp3s from a bootleg with a berkley radio show on it or something?
I'm a pretty huge fan of the group and have pretty much everything they've done (including nurnberg fish trials) except for the second sex bomb single with the bizarre ted falconi thing on the b-side. Here's what i've heard about reissues-
The band is back together with Krist Novaselic of Nirvana and are touring, they plan to release a new album and try to reissue everything they've done within the next year as a tribute to will shatter among other stuff.
The whole rerelease fiasco started cause the band stole their tapes from subterranean and after some legal wrangling, their entire catalog had to be taken off the market. but i guess they've worked out out. In the last year, Henry Rollins has rerelease Negative Trend's We Don't Play We Riot EP on his label (albeit under a self-title named) and I hear they're gonna try to rerelease everything, plus a bunch of unreleased stuff from their singles sessions like studio recordings The Wheel and End The Game.
There may be trouble getting a couple of things out tho, Public Flipper LTD. had a buttload of inserts that would be a bit hard to minaturize. Nurenberg fish trials was a limited pressing by some obscure label who may own the rights and the same could be said about the sex bomb/horn concerto single and the live at cbgbs album, not to mention the bootleg you posted, the second negative trend album (pop sessions) and the A3I album will recorded before he died and which seems to be all over the internet too. Target Video is probably gonna feature Flipper since they are rereleasing their catalogue on DVD so, hopefully this'll all happen next year. woo.

I've still got a couple of silkscreened posters left over from the Flipper/Pissed Jeans show last year at North Six. You can see the image here.
If anyone is interested in these, you can email me at full_nelson_mandela@hotmail.com
