I just bought this last month. What exactly changed in the recording? Is it just the packaging/promo that has changed or is the music actually different?

The original album was not altered. A "contemporary" version of the title track was recorded using the original vocals. It can be heard at the above link.

The 2006 version will be hip in 30 years.
