No, not "fake news" as in Comedy Central - that stuff is real compared to the phenomenon of VNRs, Video News Releases - video promos disguised as news and happily disseminated by local and network news teams too lazy to do their jobs. The Center for Media and Democracy studied the use of VNRs on TV news for ten months and they've compiled 36 examples on this page. The great thing about this page is that you can watch the original VNR, and then watch how it was incorporated by the TV news team, often using a local anchor to re-voice the exact text that was submitted on the original VNR.
