At WFMU, we've long prided ourselves on our ability to sustain ourselves with only one on-air begathon a year. Unlike those other unnamed mainstream public radio stations, we don't come badgering you, sonic hat in hand every two to three months. We keep our on-air fund drives fun, and we do them only once per year.
But our idealism has crashed into the shoals of our forthcoming mortgage payment - we have less than nine months now to scare up $280,000 to pay off our mortgage on the magic factory here. That's why we've decided that a sixty second sell-out is on order, and that's why we're having our One Minute Marathon tomorrow (Wednesday, December 6th) at 2pm. The goal is to raise $100,000 in one minute, that one minute being from 2:00 to 2:01 pm, EST.
Since we only have so many phones, and we also don't want to crash our web server, we're asking people to make an e-mail pledge, by sending your name, address and the amount of your pledge to this e-mail address: give at wfmu dot org, and to do it on or before Wednesday at 2pm.
We've manufactured two great items to thanks those people who contribute to the One Minute Marathon - our first ever musical cookbook, To Serve Man, and a black hoody sweatshirt of our Chinese propaganda Eat Flaming Death shirt design. Details on the swag can be found here.
Of course, there are other ways to help also - you can send a paypal donation to our paypal address, which is donate at wfmu dot org, you can respond to the brochure we just mailed out to everyone on our mailing list, and if you want to make our staff jump during the magic minute, you can call us tomorrow at 2pm, at 800-989-9368, or 201-521-1416. But if you get a busy signal, please e-mail your pledge in instead!
But please do pledge. Don't make us extend the marathon to 75 seconds. That would be unseemly.
