Great Moments in WFMU History #2

Raw Power All Over Scelsa's Shoes
by Ken Freedman, Lou D'Antonio, Liz Berg

03_iggy_medina Punk figure Danny Fields, responsible for signing bands like the Doors, the Ramones, and the MC5 to Elektra Records, was also a WFMU DJ with an airslot on the station five nights a week. The ever-charismatic Fields (who was known to sport a tiara, speedo, and cape from time to time), was a huge fan of the Stooges before they became popular, and convinced Iggy Pop to visit WFMU for an interview.

Iggy showed up, and didn’t leave without puking all over DJ Vin Scelsa’s sneakers. This was, of course, a few years before Iggy had earned enough rockstar cred to be dismissed of responsibility. July 10, 1969.
