Russian Cartoons of the 1960's-1970's

Listener Carrie checks in with a great link to a You Tube playlist comprised of assorted Soviet-era cartoons, and sent a CD of 24 tracks:

I believe that all of these soundtracks are from films made by Soyuzmultfilm, which is the most famous Russian animation firm and has quite an interesting story. the name of the CD translates to "My Favorite Songs." The first three songs on the CD are from the "Antoshka" films which are at the beginning of the You Tube playlists, my favorites. tracks 6-8, those are from the famous (and occasionally propagandistic) Cheburashka films, translations of some of these very popular songs can be found on You Tube in Finnish, Japanese. on You Tube there are also there are versions of lots of these songs sung by Russian childrens choirs on television...the version of "Pesenka Krasnoi Shapochki (Song of Little Red Riding Hood)" is pretty ace, so is the original music video (not actually from a cartoon, seems like a Russian child pop star, the song is amazing).

A few MP3's (and once again, do enjoy this You Tube link for visuals of these and others on the CD:)
"Chunga-Changa" (MP3)
"Pesenka Krasnoi Shapochki" (MP3)
"Spiat Ustalie Igrushki" (MP3)

I kinda like this one: http://youtube.com/watch?v=EaRu3IKuu7M&feature=PlayList&p=D994B3FF86844CF5&index=3

Who ever said Soviet Russia wasn't good for anything?

Technically speaking, the video above is an animation, not a cartoon (i.e. it isn't drawn, it is stop-motion).

@John Doe :who cares? In russia they call it cartoon.
Anyway, i love russian cartoons<3

Hi, this CD you speak of... Was it a "real" one, or one that was made with a CD-writer thingy? I'd love to get my mitts on one of those. The music from the Hedgehog in the Fog is just marvellous.
