(photo Jason Bergman/Brooklyn Vegan) WFMU is gearing up for the last concert of it's 50th Anniversary festivities, and yet another addition to our ongoing Free Music Series. UK artpunk legends Wire will be playing for free at the Fillmore NYC at Irving Plaza on Thursday, October 9th, and advance tickets are being distributed starting this Wednesday during store hours at Other Music (14 E. 4th Street in Manhattan). Tickets will be handed out two per person while supplies last, and are required for entry on the night of the show. We'll keep everyone posted on air and on our site as to status of availability as the weeks go on. WFMU will also be broadcasting Wire live over our air/netwaves!
We're also psyched to announce the only opening act: Columbus, Ohio treble-kickers Times New Viking will hit the stage at 8PM sharp, coming out two days after the release of their new Matador EP Stay Awake. Check out video of their recent WFMU visit here.
Been a great 50th Anniversary summer for WFMU with Sonic Youth, the Feelies, the Ex, Getatchew Mekuria, Extra Golden and Either/Orchestra with Mahmoud Ahmed and Alèmayèhu Eshèté. Hope to see you all at the Fillmore NYC!
