As I recall, this was a one-off spoof of Rainbow (with all original cast members) done for Comic Relief, or Children in Need, or some other charity television night.

As far as I recall, this was part of the ongoing tradition of "Christmas Tapes" that used to be played at various British TV Xmas parties. The BBC did one every year in the late 70s/early 80s and Thames (the ITV independent company, who made 'Rainbow') responded in kind with this special, er, edition.

n 1979, the cast and crew of Rainbow made a special exclusive sketch for the Thames TV staff Christmas tape, sometimes referred to as the "Twangers" episode. This show featured plenty of deliberate sexual innuendo...it was never intended to be screened to the general public.
