Better German Measles Than Mouth Herpes

The members of German Measles, a punk band from Brooklyn (and Queens) have all been around the block a few times and have been playing in bands, together and separately, for years. The drummer and guitarist both played in the legendary caUSE co-MOTION! and the bassist and singer currently are in sweet new band Beachniks. All this experience playing and songwriting is clearly paying off because German Measles is quickly turning into one of my favorite bands to see live.

They're loud, they're sloppy, they're belligerent. They rule. A friend of mine once likened their sound to "drunken soccer music", and I don't think that's so far off. Their songs are catchy with driven beats that make you want to jump along and shout really loudly. Their recent 12 inch EP, on Captured Tracks; is an A+ record from start to end. They've named it their "Totally Wild EP", a name that is totally apt, as the songs will make you jump around like a wild animal if you let them.

German Measles cite their influences as the Germs, the Bachelor Pad, the Pooh Sticks, The Rutles, The Equals, the Monks, the Moondogs and the VIPs. If you like those bands, but through the filter of four wild Brooklyn dudes, you'll love German Measles.

Wasn't there a sloppy punk band called "Rubella" already? From the west coast though, and about a half-dozen years ago? Same band but displaced?
