Sunday is the Lower East Side's 10th Annual International Pickle Day. Who started the event, and why, I really don't know. I only started going in 2007. Regardless, it's probably one of the most exciting events going on this month. And it's not just limited to your traditional cucumbers--there are pickled grapes, pickled ginger, pickled green beans, and of course kimchi--though at the end of the day, a good sour dill is still the most satisfying commodity of the bunch. The following vendors will be participating (and providing free samples of their artistry). Guss's will NOT be in attendance.
Whole Foods, Rick's, Saxelby Cheese Monger, Picklena, Roni-Sue, Brooklyn Kitchen, Russ and Daughters, Ithaca/MacDonald farms, Peanut Butter & Co., McClure's, MILK, Two Boots, Herb, Folks, Brooklyn Brine, Mama O's, New Korean Kim Chi, Horman's, Greenmarket Demos, Sahadi,, Kalustyan, Pickle Guys, China Food, Divine Brine, Fizzie Lizzie, Roasting Plant, Café Katja
To be perfectly honest, I don't know if I would want to be friends with someone who was hardcore into pickles/pickling, but I do like to join them this one day of the year. It may be a nerdier hobby/vocation than Dungeons & Dragons. I dunno. Watch this video and you be the judge.
Sunday, parking lot on Broome & Ludlow, New York, NY, 11 AM-4:30 PM.

I dunno either; looks substantially less nerdy than your average FMU record fair.
