Kudos to East Village Radio's Jeff Conklin for pointing this one out to me, a high quality recording of synth whiz Keith Fullerton Whitman playing Brooklyn's 285 Kent last Friday. In Keith's own words, "my absolutely favorite moment of any given set of this music is when the crowd suddenly realizes the performance has in fact commenced & begins to actually focus on the music heard as "performance" instead of "background" ... this sudden shift, from one second to the next, seems to sweep across the room in a single stage until everyone present suddenly begins questioning their behavior the second before ; it happens right around 4:08 of this recording ... i use this event as a signal to begin the second section of the piece (speed increase, introduction of audio-rate FM to both digital voices) & build linearly from there ..."
And you know, this makes me remember how much I've really enjoyed the Koen Holcamp/Chris Forsyth LP that came into FMU's new bin recently. Truly amazing LP out on Blackest Rainbow.
