Here's a site that will keep you busy for hours...
Choose any two bands on the site & find out how many "family tree" steps between them there are! The site says the longest link is 32 steps; I have yet to hit on anything over 20 - Assuck to Crosby Stills Nash & Young garnered that one. My buds Watch Them Die will be psyched that they are only 10 steps away from Black Sabbath...
Umm...I got 20 trying to go from the Velvets to the Band. Weird.

...through steve albini, Mike Patton, Brujeria and Aynsley Dunbar through Spencer Dryden to Janis Joplin...

I linked the Beastie Boys to the Beatles in 16 steps. But I think I identified a problem, because it got from the Beastie Boys to Blind Faith in 11 steps, but then took 5 more steps to get to the Beatles. But Eric Clapton played with George Harrison more than a few times. So, there might be a number of links missing.

OK, it's disturbing how often Jeff Lynne (The Quiet Wilbury) figures in my links. And not with ELO either.

Wow, Gazoo, that's kind of surprising, especially since it was only 23 steps from Creedence to P-Funk All Stars. Mission of Burma and The Doobie Brothers are involved.

Huey Lewis and the News to the Band--26!

But from the Band to Burzum: only 17. Spooky.
(Hey, I DON'T like Burzum or what they are/were about -- I just thought they were obscure and isolated.)
