Listener John in Oslo, our Scandinavian correspondent laments:
"Here is a picture of "WigWam" who are representing Norway in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest. These guys are therefore the best we can come up with as a country. It is indeed embarrasing to be a Norwegian, and cool too...
The pastiche is somewhat muffled by the fact that these old men dont have an "agenda", the irony - the irony - it is indeed confusing.
It has never before been SO "Hard to be a Rock'n Roller"... (Gah, it is even misspelled...)"
I see from the News section of Eurovision Song Contest that Lebanon pulled out its contestant for politcal reasons. I'd think they'd have pulled out because they are not part of Europe. How are we supposed to take this contest seriously if they allow non-Europeans to compete?

Is Norway behind the Iron curtain?

Regarding Lebanon:
Allowing countries/peoples on the fringes of Europe to participate seems a small price to pay for Europeans' having encroached on their territory in the past.
And perhaps belly-dancers would raise the tone of the event.

"I'd think they'd have pulled out because they are not part of Europe. How are we supposed to take this contest seriously if they allow non-Europeans to compete?"
Firstly, I don't think anybody in their right mind could take Eurovision seriously. Secondly, non-European Israel and Turkey are allowed to compete and win, so why not Lebanon?

I wasn't able to see this thing on the TV since I moved away from Sweden and Europe because I couldn't find a job that was in my alley. But here I am in Japan, listening to the webradio, and I must say... I DIG THAT SONG.. extremely tight, and I hope you will make a Japan Tour soon so I can get some of that tight-vibe you guys got! Cheerio! (If I voted in the Eurovision Song Contest.. I'd give you 10 000 points! :D)

Lebanon would be allowed to enter because they are part of the EBU, as are Morocco, Libya and Israel, which is why some of them do/have competed.

Actually, I'm a fan of heavy and death metal (yes combination of genres is quite unusual ;). From norwegian bands I prefer epic black metal band Borknagar and black metal classics Burzum, Immortal, Emperor etc.
But i really enjoyed Wig Wam show in Eurovision. And if moldavians had awaken me from the sleep (caused by all this boring pop-stuff), Wig Wam made me lough (friendly) and even slightly bang my head :D
I treat Wig Wam show as an act of irony, really qualitative irony, in context of Eurovision. Norwegians must be really proud of their Eurovision delegates. I wish lithuanians (that's where I'm from) one day could have some like Wig Wam to repre4send the mand bite the Eurovision.
