As a huge Skynyrd Fan, i find it welcoming to hear the Blue Man Group do it. Now i really want to see one of their shows even more. Actually with all due respect, someone who gets a lost of negetivity towards him, Kid Rock, actually does the first part of free bird. For people who dont know he has some really deep songs and it actually fits perfectly.

I was at a concert in Vancouver BC and there was at least 10 drunk kids under the age of 25 yelling play freebird.

LOL...I'm a solo acoustic artist and, anytime I do an open mic night or another gig, there's always some wiseguy who yells "Freebird!" right in the middle of a song. So finally, I decided, if you can't beat them, join them. I learned Freebird and now will just play the song when requested, even if it is tongue-in-cheek. Check out my rendition at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gqz6uHMv4cg

So who recorded the song "Show Us Your Tits?" That request also comes up a lot.

I wittnessed the 1977 Labor Day M.D.(Jerry's Kids)Fund Raiser at Quaker Bridge Mall in Lawrenceville NJ, which featured 5 or 6 local rock bands. The crowd of mostly teens and tewenty-somethings mercilessly cried to hear Freebird at each band, but not with sarcasm, they actually wanted to hear the song because it was so popular at the time. Each band that played knew the song too, except one. The band that didn't know the song actually had the sheet music handy and attempted to play it with the lead singer reading the lines from the score. The solos sounded more like a Jazz odessey meets Layla, but they got through the song to be cheered by the crowd.

Not sure where the Chicago DJ story came from but, for as long as I remember, cries for Freebird and Whipping Post have been made at most every concert I've been to.

As a musician, instead of telling people to fuck off, or making like I don't like the songs, I prefer the band have brief arrangements of both songs handy. In a tour I did in 2010 with a very small un-notable group it certainly turned fans on when they would shout it, and we'd just count it and rip.

Here's a clip of what we did - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-yk_vHrYAY
