The problem with backmasking is that there are so many demonic dialects, who can possibly keep up? You can never be sure exactly which evil deeds the Rock Demons are trying to implant in your subconscious. Well, fret no more. Jeff Milner's handy-dandy backmasking site lets you play songs forwards or backwards, and it even displays the secret satanic messages for you while you listen. Who knew that Robert Plant was really singing about an evil "little toolshed where Satan made us suffer" in Stairway to Heaven? So the next time the talking dogs show up at your house wanting proof of purchase stamps for all your evil deeds, you'll no longer be able to feign ignorance. via del.icio.us
I remember growing up in the 80's, this whole satan backwards masking thing was really big. My next door neighbors became born again christians and would preach to my mother about the evil Proctor & Gamble logo and the evil backwards masking in music, in addition to why they put their daughters on strict diets (???).
The neighbor had a tape of some religion show where they played music backwards and interpreted it. On it were version of Prince's "when doves cry" which when played backwards is "I Sleep With My Mother" (at a young age I really didn't understand why this was bad) and ZZ Top's "Legs" translated to "Black Raindrops from Satan"
When I got home I chucked my beloved 45 of "when doves cry" into a remote corner, hoping to never find it again (I think I dug it out a few days later)
I remember being on the playground and ZZ Top's mantra was constantly running through my head
BLACK RAINDROPS FROM SATAN
BLACK RAINDROPS FROM SATAN
BLACK RAINDROPS FROM SATAN
BLACK RAINDROPS FROM SATAN
the best part of this site is the comment from "Rita" who threw all her Led Zep albums in the garbage. surely must be a joke!

If you ever get a chance watch the film "The Stairway at St. Paul’s" by Jeroen Offerman
http://www.lff.org.uk/films_details.php?FilmID=237
"Inspired by rumours of satanic messages hidden in rock records, Offerman memorised and performed the vocal track of ‘Stairway to Heaven’ in its entirety, backwards. A continuous shot taped outside St Paul’s Cathedral is reversed to present the classic song in a skewed, but legitimate, new way."
I saw it at a CinemaTexas screening last year. Offerman was in the audience and after the showing, during Q&A he sang the last verse backwards for us. Amazing!
