Merry Christmas, Con Ed; or, I'm Glad I Don't Live Next Door to Them.
3-minute video (Windows Media) (Or here or here) (Music is "Wizards of Winter" by Trans-Siberian Orchestra)
(Artist neighbor unknown)
VARIOUS UPDATES:
Another arrangement on the same house, with Jingle Bells audio by (brace yourself) Barbra Streisand: 2-minute video (Windows Media)
(Users of better operating systems can view Windows Media video using the open-source video player VideoLan (a.k.a. VLC).)
The light arrangements are by Carson Williams on his Mason, OH house. The show ran four hours a night at low volume, simulcast via low-power FM radio for drive-bys, and used 16,000 lights and the Light-O-Rama sequencer.
Or, play Pong on the side of an office building using your cell phone.
(Thanks to Barrett Golding and others for more info!)
UPDATE 12/5/05: How to make the EXACT same display on your own house using Carson Williams' sequencer file.
Yet another UPDATE 12/8/05: Williams has pulled the plug on the light show at his house, due to traffic problems and accidents in front of his house.
UPDATE 12/20/05: Another video to the same music here (Windows Media) (thanks Joe!)

this guy sez the light-show exists at a Ohio home:

"This is a friend of mine in Mason, Ohio. These are REAL lights - not animated. The lights are ran from a computer program and it is impressive the time and effort he has put into them to make them work. He only runs it from 6p-10p and the sound is very low outside. He broadcasts over FM so you listen in your car on the radio, that is what you are hearing on the clip. Not offensive to neighbors except for the bright lights for 4hrs."

they say it's uses a Light-O-Rama sequence

May I suggest that once people get VLC they try it for all streaming. I get the best FMU streaming action with VLC/

I think this wmv file is one of the coolest things I have seen and heard in a long time. I cannot stop playing it - I even put it on repeat for an hour at a time and listen as I work around the house. The music is absolutely awesome. I am going to buy the CD, assuming there is one.
Thanks for having the info I was looking for (name of music and band)

I've said it elsewhere and I'll say it here: I think it's the guy across the way who really has a beef. Can you imagine, every night, every stoner in town gathering on your front lawn and staring slack-jawed but rapt at the house on the other side of the street?
