OK friends, the WFMU Marathon has sneakily crept into its second week, and that means we resume the WFMU DJ Live Band Karaoke Action! Yes, just about every day of the marathon, we're offering you an mp3 of another stellar performance from a WFMU Finale Past.
The Marathon has traditionally ended with a party featuring a band, but around 2001 we decided "really, isn't it high time we stopped looking outside, and started looking to our very own DJs?" Thus the Hoof & Mouth Sinfonia was born - and we've got recorded evidence, oh boy do we ever...
Today, it's a special: A Threefer! This is mitigated by the fact that we don't have actual mp3s to post today, rather we're pointing you to some fascinating Realaudio links in the wild & wooly archive of WFMU radio shows past. Specifically, we're looking back to the 2002 Marathon Finale, an especially fondly-remembered finale among many staffers and listeners - and a finale which, sadly, went undocumented in the High Quality. So we point you to the Realaudio archives with a plea: DID YOU RECORD ANY PORTION OF THE 2002 MARATHON FINALE? Gosh, we'd really love a copy -- email me and we'll talk.
OK, the goods!
Rob Weisberg "Jaan Pehechaan Ho" - the band tries to keep up as Rob vigorously summons Bollywood legend Mohammed Rafi!
Hova "A Minha Menina" - BT works the fuzz-wah as Hova introduces another generation to the glory that is Os Mutantes (that's "Moo-cha-chase" to you!)
Pseu Braun "Hard to Explain in a Bottle" - yes, we remember mashups. Pseu bangs out the big one, melding Christina Aguilara to The Strokes!
Check back here every day thoughout the Marathon for a new Hoof n'Mouth mp3, then catch the brand new edition live in the flesh on Sunday March 12th, from 7pm to midnite, on the radio and streaming A/V at wfmu.org - and keep on pledging! 1-800-989-9368!!
