One of the projects I've been involved with related to WFMU that has been most exciting to me has been our sporadic Aircheck
show, where both I and many other staffers compiled lost/found
broadcasts in radio's past and present that could be considered
historical, though probably overlooked by most. You can have your
Hindenberg crash or Winston Churchill addresses, but we love
airing the maniacal Weekend Party Salute rants of Cleveland DJ Murray
Saul, street pranksters Coyle and Sharpe, the flamboyant air presence
of NYC legend Frankie Crocker and the sheer bile and frustration of
Floridian DJ Bob Lassiter. The show has been running on our summer
schedules since 2002 (minus the 2004 season), and the archives are a treasure trove.
I still listen back to the pirate DJ from Radio Nordsee whose ship was
boarded and set on fire while on the air, Houston's Crazy Cajun Huey
Meaux with his raunchy rock and roll and prison dedications, and the
tons of great FMU-related stuff that has aired (including a whole hour
of radio ID's, and the famous Daniel Johnston/Yo La Tengo phone
broadcast). The show was even open to re-airing Paris Hilton's bizarre,
Warholian podcasts to promote her movie. We're hoping to bring the show
back this summer, and we'd love to hear from listeners who might have
some goodies to contribute! Feel free to drop me a line: bt (at) wfmu
(dot) org if you think you might have some interesting/FMU-worthy
archival recordings or even pointers to unusual podcasts that would be
up our alley, we'd love to hear them!
i LOOOOVVVVEEE the airchecks. please do bring them back! i used to have my thingie set up to receive the podcasts, but i think i turned that off or something. i'll get back on the bandwagon.

When I think of WFMU, I think first of Ken & Andy, then secondly of Aircheck. Everything else comes after that.

Oh yeah - and if The Professor et al have any more Bob Lassiter to share with the world - I'd be thrilled!

David,
check out http://www.boblassiterairchecks.com
Tons of old Lassiter airchecks there, and they're adding new ones all the time!
