Courtesy of the Fantagraphics blog, it's the moment you've all been waiting for*: an eBay auction to have the winner's likeness show up in a cartoon drawn by Chris Ware, illustrator of note (and not just for his WFMU T-shirt design, pictured here). This is your chance to hang out with the likes of Jimmy Corrigan, Rusty Brown, Quimby the Mouse, and other depressing yet lovingly illustrated cartoon characters!
Chris will also send you a signed copy of the comic, "but only on the proviso that the person in question doesn't get mad or otherwise grow to despise me if their likeness is construed as satirical, incorrect, unflattering or in any way unliterary." So I guess Andy Breckman need not apply. (Image from Megan's frabtabulous WFMU wallpaper post.)
*If, in fact, you have been waiting for the chance to appear in a Chris Ware comic.
Chris Ware came into the theatre I work at a few years ago and asked if would be showing Ghost World. He was getting a bit of press at the time so I recognized him and instantly got nervous from being in such close contact with a god. I asked, "are you chris ware?"...btw, this is very unlike me to ask such things...horatio sanchez? steve albini? jeff garland? all these brushes with local fame! but who cares?! This is Chris Ware! he responded, "why yes, I am? Have I met you somewhere?" I stuttered..."uh, no...but I love your comics."
he was quite taken aback and responded, "thank you!" and added that it was very strange because, as he said, "us comic nerds usually don't get recognized in public."
I would be honored if chris ware would draw me as a pathetic little man!
