It's Joe Coleman weekend here in New York. The show opens tonight (link), the movies screen Friday (link), and then the man himself takes the stage on Saturday (link). I have seen a few of his paintings over the years at the Visionary Arts Museum in Baltimore (link) but the Tilton gallery will be hosting 33 works, as well as selections from Joe's Odditorium!! (link) An absolute do-not-miss show.
For some reason I have always associated Joe Coleman with WFMU - perhaps it is the comix connection - but the two have always been charter members in my own personal justice league of awesomeness.
A quick search through the archives proves that the two actually are pretty tight -
here is Joe on the air (link)
here is Joe on the blog (link) (link)
My favorite bit of Joe Trivia:
The man who drew this
And the man (link) who drew this
Were in the same rock and roll band, The Steel Tips (link)
give a listen: Krazy Baby (link)
or watch: 1977 YouTube (link)
and of course, thanks to YouTube - Joe's most famous of famous Pranks.(link)
Wow! Thanks for the links. i was searching for joe's playlist link... Found through the big G. Thanks again..

The WFMU/Joe connection is real indeed, he's made a few appearances as a guest back when Johan Kugelberg DJ'd (unfortunately pre-archives).

...and possibly as well as Fabio's guest? I am not positive. And of course the link to the Rex/Hasil tribute show above.
