John Muir Jr. High Chorus - Please Let The Children Go (3:41)
This record somewhat creeped me out when I picked it up. The 7" is called "Please Let the Children Go", and is recorded by the John Muir Jr. High Chorus. This record was obviously made as a benefit record for missing Jr. High student Michaela Joy Garecht. The back cover depicts a news clipping of Michaela's "missing person" ad. This song is basically a letter to kidnappers, telling them to "Please Let the Children Go". In addition to this 7" being more than just a little morbid, another thing that weirded me out was the fact that it is AUTOGRAPHED. The autograph says, "Darin, Thanks a hell of a lot for your help in the mix". The signature at the end is unclear. The date of release is unclear.

Just did a web search on Michaela Joy Garecht - she was kidnapped in '88 in California and is still missing. She'd be 27 now.
The Eighties - that explains the "we Are The World" Eighties benefit-song feel to this.

what's creepier is George Michael being thanked on the credits... and serendipity abounds with the next posting... so GM (to his close friends, fields and robots) is not only a throat for hire in the b-day bash scene...

To follow-up MrFab's comment, this page gives a pretty complete rundown on Garecht's case.
Favorite line of the song: "This is not a love song, it's a song of love..."

Actually, if anyone has any questions about Michaela you could just ask me. Today would have been her 28th birthday. Also, if anyone knows where I could get this. Please contact me.
