It was the global triumph of Cheesy Euro-Disco that was not to be. If not for Serbian Nerdthrob Marija Serifovic's first place finish at Eurovision 2007, Ukrainian cross-dresser Verka Serduchka would have come in first place for her performance of Dancing Lasha Tumbai:
This, of course, is not the Eurovision performance, which can be seen here. But this is same song which almost put Cheesy Euro-Disco on the map, and the video contains many of the requisite Cheesy Euro-Disco tropes, such as outer space sets, metallic suits and absurd choreography.

plus, you forgot to mention all the intriguing backstory, how 'Russia Goodbye' got turned into 'Lasha Tumbai', a Mongolian drink (uh, sure...) and the Ukranian nationalists who couldn't stand being represented by a drag queen...

This really should have won, it was just so right for Eurovision. It had everything, the crazy dance, the crazy clothes, the crazy people... everything.

Actually, Verka Serduchka is not a cross-dresser. He is a comey actor playing an extravagant lady who used to be a train stewardess but has become a big star.
