Here's a shot of WFMU's post-apocalyptic homebase of Jersey City. This blood-red sunrise photo was taken during a recent drive over the Pulaski Skyway shortly before 6 AM, while listening to the sinister conclusion of Mita's show.
In particular, her closing track ("Vampire Radio" by Douglas Breggar) [Streaming Real Audio] left me with a palpable sense of creeped-outed-ness, even as it gave way to the familiar strains of the JM in the AM theme.
Previous Jersey City-centric ramblings on this blog can be found here.
The creepier thing is how did the Jersey City skyway get that shade of Bram Stoker's "Dracula" red? What is Elizabeth pumping into the air these days?

I attended a presentation recently in which a Google rep was using examples to illustrate search term trends in book titles. Of the four examples given, two were for very high-volume terms (Harry Potter, Freakonomics), one (something about a very particular subset of orchids) was in the mid-to-low end, and at the far right of the graph, where it trailed off toward the baseline, was -- you guessed it -- "Jersey City."
I wanted to interrupt the meeting and say "What's the big idea picking on Jersey City?," but I'm trying not to be that guy.
