I know, I know, I deserve a punch in the face for the title of this post. But it is, after all, what Merv Griffin should have called his autobiography. In honor of the talk show, game show and lounge singing star who passed away this weekend, here are a bunch of clips. Some you have probably seen here before, but who doesn't want to see Thor sing A Piece of the Action or James Brown play Wheel of Fortune one more time?
The Merv Griffin Show (1980) - Guest Priscilla Presley - a full twenty minutes!
The Merv Griffin Show (1980) - Guest Deborah Harry.
The Merv Griffin Show (1974) - An unaired segment featuring Pat Paulsen.
The Merv Griffin Show (1966) - Guest Patty Duke. I had no idea Patty had such a devoted cult following, but clips of The Duke on all sorts of old TV shows have been popping up on the internet at a rapid pace lately.
The Price Is Right with guest host Merv Griffin - I am not certain, but I think this footage is from 1959. Bill Cullen was the original host of The Price is Right and in this rare clip Merv fills in.
The Merv Griffin Show - Two clips from the mid-seventies when Merv took the show to Las Vegas for a week at a time. The first clip features Reveen the Impossiblist and the second is rock star Thor.
The Merv Griffin Show (1978) - Guest Buddy Rich.
The Merv Griffin Show - A clip from the early or mid-seventies with Merv joining The Mike Curb Congregation in a song.
The Merv Griffin Show (1981) - with The Carpenters.
Wheel of Fortune - Merv's most famous creation. This episode we see James Brown & Little Richard compete against Weird Al and Lee Greenwood. Wow.
The Freddy Martin Show (1954) - with guest Merv Griffin.
Merv had a successful stint as a crooner and pianist before moving into television production. Here he sings A Lovely Bunch of Coconauts.
The comic Milk & Cheese meets Merv Griffin.
God, I miss Pat Paulsen! That clip is sooooo f'in funny!

Ok sure but where is Merv's best show - DANCE FEVER?! I swear I saw Exene as a guest judge very near the end of its run. Will we ever see it on DVD?
And better than Merv IMHO is Rick Moranis' impression from SCTV. The Merv Griffith sketch is classic.

Has anybody got The Merv Griffin show episode some time between October 14 (episode 2657) and December 8 (episode 2696) 1975 featuring ABBA ? As I have a special enter to the French TVs archive, I can give anything in exchange this episode. Thanks
