We are only three days from the fourth anniversary of Johnny Cash's death, so here is a rare early spoken word recording by the Man in Black. The album The Lure of the Grand Canyon, recorded in 1961, features Ferde Grofé's Grand Canyon Suite, conducted by Andre Kostelanetz, mixed with ambient sounds supposedly recorded in the Grand Canyon itself. But the real gem is the last track, where Johnny Cash explains everything about these recordings, the Grand Canyon, and, most importantly, mules. Who could resist Johnny Cash's voice and singing mules? Listen for yourself: Johnny Cash - A Day In The Grand Canyon (MP3)
The original album has never been released on CD, but this particular track appears on the compilation The Man In Black: 1959-1962 on Bear Family Records.
