As a fan of songs that degenerate and fall apart into blubbering, incoherent messes (see my 2007 Marathon premium, Unhinged Melodies), I instantly fell in love with Drunk John Lennon's version of "Mongoloid" (MP3), recorded in 1988.
The band lists their influences as "John Allen's WFMU radio show," which may or may not explain why Mr. Allen gave them a shout-out on his Pop Surgery blog. It certainly doesn't explain why Mike Lupica was reading John Allen's blog in the first place, but he kindly invited me to hop aboard the DJL bandwagon nonetheless.
Also available for listening/downloading via DJL's myspace page is "I Wanna Hold Your Gland," which was immortalized on a 7" single in 1990. Once you're down in that region of the internet, you might notice that the band is planning a reunion this year. I can't wait!
sorry, but wasn't lennon dead in '80? (you say this devo cover was recorded in '88) just sayin' is all.

I believe there is some confusion here. This is not actually John Lennon (although I understand he loved Devo and did drunkenly sing "Uncontrollable Urge" to Mark Mothersbaugh after a gig that he had attended).
This is Drunk John Lennon, apparently a band.
Yeah.
