The cinematography in this music video reminds me of those weird interludes between Kids In The Hall sketches. Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet did to the latter what fellow Canadians Fifth Column do to the former. By vaguer association, I can't help thinking of a newish Blank Dogs video I recently saw. At any rate, here's Fifth Column's video for "Like This".
I dig the yo-yo cut up stuff two minutes into the video. Does anybody have 1985's out of print Fifth Column At The Funnel movie? Post clips on youtube or contact me or something please! Drawing in large part from the above music video's director, Bruce LaBruce, Fifth Column drummer, guitarist and vocalist GB Jones went on to direct a couple of movies herself. Below you'll find trailers from Jones' films and the trailer to Bruce LaBruce's new "melancholy gay zombie" film...
Enjoy the racy, kitchy exploitation of GB Jones' '97s Yo-Yo Gang. Also, check out the trailer for Jones' other movie, The Troublemakers.
You might have to be a little embarrased for liking the song in that trailer, since it's by the Osmond Brothers (Donny wasn't the only male Osmond? News to me...), who've got some funny and sometimes good youtubage going on. After watching these clips, observing connections with LaBruce and KITH (more specifically, Scott Thompson) as well as hearing of FC's releases on K Recs, you won't be that surprised to hear that some of GB's work is more controversial than the above music video. Jones also acted in Bruce Labruce's omnisexual-art-porn classic No Skin Off My Ass in 1991. LaBruce's work is a lot wilder than Jones'. I can't really go into all that since I don't really have the desire to watch anything too explicit, but I can definately vouch for LaBruce's hillarious and addictive BLaB column. An appropriate follow up to the gay anarchist/terrorist movie Raspberry Reich (check out this not quite safe for work scene), LaBruce's most recent "melancholy gay zombie" movie is called Otto; Or, Up With Dead People. Here's the NSFW trailer.
A totally fantastic song! The chiming guitars, ethereal voices, '60s organ, that vibe. I had no idea there was a video for "Like This," and it is great, too. Thanks a lot for the posting!
