In 1978 Great Britain, possibly the most unfashionable thing a band could do is to form and claim influences in Black Sabbath, Venom, and Hawkwind. Dark, scuzzed out, heavy, and weird, Bristol's Amebix squatted squarely between damaged punk, metal, and psych camps and also squatted, literally, in assorted sanitation-free fleaholes through their days. They got their first boost from Crass, and their last tour ended, appropriately, in Sarajevo on the verge of chaos. They were an incredible band and inspired legions of dedicated followers, and according the Brooklyn Vegan, Rob Miller (aka "the Baron") has announced a reformation of sorts (tinnitus-plagued Spider will be subbed for by Roy Mayorga of Sepultura) complete with a DVD and CD issue on Alternative Tentacles. BV also put up a bunch of vids and MP3s.
Ha ha ha - ain't thought about them in years.
1st saw them playing at a beach party in Weymouth Dorset prob summer of 79. Must say I prefered The Mob more though.
