(Yet more Joe Belock public defacement as of today hitting the left coast, photo Maria L.) Samples of WFMU playlist comments Tuesday:
"Is something wrong?"
"I thought Bryce was filling in (for Joe Belock) or something."
"When did the High School Sweethearts learn to sing in Finnish?"
"Is this a parody of the recent WNYE-KEXP arrangement?"
"Try something challenging for a change asshats!"
"If challenging means jazz, then, no,"
"Really, really lame joke. Jeez, what what was the point? To annoy the listeners? Why not just have pizzas delivered to everyone who pledged to the station?"
"The playlist is totally out of sequence today. Anyone else experiencing this?"
"Is it OK to leave notes here if I can only hear KVJC? I am confuzzed."
"The real KFJC show that's on right now sounds like a show for pill heads."
"Where is Eat Skull? KFJC would have played them by now."
Much love to our freeform brothers and sisters at KFJC in Los Altos Hills for our April 1st web/air switcheroo. Hope you enjoyed it, or on the other hand, forgive us both. Sometimes we just can't help ourselves.
I hope that the dollar from my mouse pledge that was earmarked for April 1st is going to KFJC.

Fooled me - but then, I thought it likely was a DNS problem between two stations that had decided at some point over the years to share infrastructure.
Not that it really matters - KFJC is why I downloaded Audio Active years ago for, long before WFMU was streaming in MP3.
I'm still not sure it was all that good of a joke - when the idea first dawned on me, I thought possibly the DNS records had been switched by some disaffected person.
At least realizing that what happened wasn't maliciously intended makes my foolishness bearable.

Got me. I was trying to log onto KFJC last night(long time listener)and I kept getting the fun91(long time listener). Too much for me to fathom at 11:00p, so I went to bed.

Duh- I fell for it hook, line & sinker. I'm still kicking myself for not realizing it before Ken wished me a happy April Fools day. Good job! I'm sorry I missed the website switcheroo.

Despite finally realizing about 2 minutes into the KFJC/'FMU change-up that all of us were being royally had, I still thought it was pretty clever.

Hey Wha' Happen? All 'em archives is switched up too? Waaaaaaahaaaa! Where's my Belock/Best Show? Waaaahaaaa.
Posted by: Lee Harvey | April 02, 2008 at 10:39 AM
It just kind of undermined Tom's show. It would have been great if he were allowed to talk about it. It could have been awesome if he were allowed to fish for calls from SF over-the-air listeners.
The KFJC stream kept crashing during his show, and the callers kept wanting to bring up the switcheroo.

The archives will be switched back to WFMU today, thanks for your patience.

Wait, whaaaaaaaaaaaaat? No Best Show archive? Instead I get some boring unlistenable drone for music with some DJ with a boring unlistenable drone for a voice.
I cant listen live to it live because I'm always asleep at that time and now I've missed it because of an April fool joke, that technically (in europe anyway) took place on April 2nd!

Thanks wfmu and kfjc. I was actually fooled for the first time in years on this retarded day.

Wow. I totaly fell for that. I drove around for an extra 30 minutes trying to figure it out. Then battled with my home radio to get decent reception. After that attempted failed, I gave up and went to sleep wondering where my WFMU was, all the while muttering "But the marathon was a success"
Well done! *bows*

jeebus, I can't believe there are so many positive comments on here. Some of us get home from a hard day at work (in front of a computer) and just want to sit in our room and drink a cold beer and listen to WFMU (on the radio).
You thwarted that. Someone somewhere said that this "prank" was like a 24-hour long bad episode of 7SD. 100% true. You know, some people still like/have to listen to this station on the radio. That was the fatal flaw.
Posted by: James | April 02, 2008 at 05:03 PM
The fatal flaws were:
(1) Pissing off the audience right after the marathon
(2) Still having to say the legal ID of the actual station, which gives away the game
(3) Having poor KFJC's servers strain to keep up with the massive WFMU audience
Posted by: jhn | April 02, 2008 at 05:20 PM
I see. And you speak for the whole audience and declare them pissed off.
Perhaps some people give to WFMU's marathon because they support a radio station so adventurous that they want to celebrate the freedom of sound, including the sound of confusion at times. WFMU and KFJC did not do this prank maliciously, I assure you.

I enjoyed it. Zoltan's "Difficult Material" is a great show.

All due deference to the folks who dug what FJC was doing, and even more so to its own listeners, who no doubt love it as much as we love our home team. But for me at least, the day was like dropping acid with Timothy Leary's bunch of navel-gazers when you're used to doing it Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters.
Posted by: Parq | April 02, 2008 at 10:32 PM
I'm really stunned that people in both station's audiences actually got mad! STUNNED! What's the problem? Either you think it's funny or you shrug it off, I figured. Pissed off right after the marathon? That's the equivalent of saying "I just pledged and you won't play my request and I'm pissed!" Jeeeez. I like how alleged "open minds" suddenly close up at their convenience. So you want to drink a beer listening to Scharpling - what if he was on vacation and the fill-in DJ played the same exact stuff you heard on KFJC? would you be pissed? WTF!
Posted by: KFJConfused | April 03, 2008 at 02:02 AM
They did it on the air too?
That surprises me, at least a bit, since I assumed this was an Internet only prank.
I was fooled, no question - but in part, because of the assumption that no broadcast station would play around with its broadcast signal that way, which led me to assume it was an Internet only 'problem.'
Neither a success nor failure - but certainly in keeping with what makes freeform worth listening to, including the excruciating parts.

I am SO ANGRY.
I DEMAND that all of Tuesday's DJs be docked one week of their WFMU salary to be set up in a fund that will help all of the victims and their families who were so grievously harmed by this stunt.
Posted by: Elias | April 03, 2008 at 11:15 AM
I guess it worked for other people, but I went to KFJC's page after I figured out was going on, and none of the links would click through. Seems like I was the only one with that problem.
Had a rough day, just sittin in my bedroom, drainin a cold beer, no Best Show. You guys should start shoppin for a coffin.

If it was funny, it was mean too.
Posted by: matt | April 04, 2008 at 11:19 AM
It took me awhile to see the humor in it.. but I think that's because I was so traumatized when 'JACK' took over CBS FM!! CBS is sorta back ( a moral victory at least) but I guess I'm still not completely over it....!

This simply therefore occurs which linens stitched sideways along with openings reduce away for that mind as well as hands tend to be perfect clothes for your time period. Individuals, both women and men within biblical occasions frequently used really free clothes which were linked or even belted round the center.
