WFMU presents Selected Sounds from the Free Music Archive vol. 1. This compilation previews 21 of the thousands of tracks that’ll be freely available under Creative Commons licenses when the fully interactive Free Music Archive website launches later this year. We’re working with a group of fellow curators to fill the library with great music, and this sampler represents a piece of what WFMU brings to the table.
We’ll be handing out free copies of the CD at the July 4th Sonic Youth/Feelies show (we’re lending special support as part of our Free Music Series). And you can download the comp, along with accompanying artwork by Greg Harrison, right here!

My Cd burning software informs me that this compilation is 3 seconds too long, which I guess means it clocks in at 80:03. You guys kill me. Anyhow, I solved this by lopping off the last few seconds of the Alan Vega song and fading out, but if you'd posted this thing before mp3 editing software was invented, I'd be up shit's creek now.

Jeff, I'm sorry about that. We crammed as much music on here as we could, but it should be clocking in at 79:47 and we did manage to fit them onto CDs without any further editing. Maybe there's a setting to eliminate the gaps between songs in your CD burning software?

My software says it does eliminate the gaps, but then it also says the check is in the mail and there's no MSG in my take out Chinese, so I have my doubts. As I said, I trimmed a little bit of crowd noise and everything is now fine. Hey. Thanks, and also thanks for this incredibly cool CD, however the hell long it is.
