Friday, July 18
Brian Turner will be DJing at a benefit for the East River Music Project, who put on great free shows at East River Park in Manhattan every summer. Also on the decks that night will be Maria T (WPRB) and DJ Thanaton. Venue info: Brecht Forum (451 West Street, between Bank & Bethune Streets, in Manhattan), 6-11pm, entry is free, but donations are welcomed.
Wednesday, July 23
WFMU's Billy Jam will be a judge for the East Coast DMC DJ Battle extravaganza at the Knitting Factory (74 Leonard St in Manhattan, 6pm doors). Other judges include GrandWizzard Theodore, Grand Master Roc Raida, DJ Steve Dee, DJ Scratch, DJ Roli Rho, Sugarcuts, DJ Spictakular, and Marcus. Three separate DJ battles will go down in one night!
Bronwyn C. has been invited to read at the inaugural "New Voices" series on July 23 at the Center for Book Arts in Manhattan, and is writing a new short-short story for the occasion.
Sunday, July 27
Film buff Fabio presents one of his own short avant garde pieces as part of the Red Hook Cine Soiree (location: BWAC, 499 Van Brunt Street, Red Hook, Brooklyn; starts at 2pm). Other underground and experimental filmmakers featured in the festival include Jimmy Kinder, zaza m., Caryn Cline, Kelly Fancher, Jennifer MacMillan, Bradley Eros, Sheri Wills, Jennifer Matotek, Seth Mitter, Florens Fanciulli, and Donna Cameron.

Laura Cantrell has a performance date lined up at the Spiegel Tent (8/19, South Street Seaport / Pier 17, 10pm); the theme is "Now Let Us Praise Famous Women."
