Due to familial obligations over the weekend, hence the late publication of this post, you need to get over to WFMU's eBay page now if you want in on these choice items.
And you will. Oh yes, you will.Fela Kuti Promo Photo
Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Ransome Kuti has been in the news lately, especially the Arts & Culture section of many a New York City rag. There's a new Off-Broadway musical about him, directed by Bill T. Jones, with music by Antibalas and other local groups. Meanwhile, back in Jersey City, we have a promotional photo from London Records celebrating Fela's - and Afrobeat music's - introduction to America. Suitable for framing, it's a fine piece of 1970s-era musical history.
The Residents Commercial Album
No, it's not the CD reissue. It's the original issue LP released in 1980 on Ralph. Large eyeballs perform 40 commercial-radio-ready pop hits. OK, maybe the "commercial-radio-ready" is not quite right, or maybe it's wishful thinking, or I don't know. But you know this album, and you know you want it. so go bid on it already. Oh, did I mention it's in Near Mint condition? It is, so please treat it with the love it deserves.
Elephant Table Album: A Compilation of Difficult Music
Another original issue LP, this one a rare and influential compilation from 1983, imported from the UK. It has all your favorite hits from Coil, Nurse With Wound, Chris and Cosey, Portion Control, and The Legendary Pink Dots, plus so much more. It has nothing to do with K-Tel, operators are not standing by, do not call now for there's nobody awaiting your call. Go to eBay, Dear Beloveds, for that is the only way.
had to post this somewhere... seems adequate to do so given the awesome Fela shot...
