i had just read an article about a 'homeless' guy (preferred to be called an 'urban outdoorsman'- who, working out of a coffee shop with wireless, used his laptop and a headset to make a decent living doing telemarketing or customer service kind of freelance for various companies. he was making about $1000 every two weeks, got payed through paypal and had a card, yet still preferred to live in his shanty.

but i don't think it was this guy.

federal income taxes between 1998 and 2005, according
to a new report from Congress.

of foreign companies doing business in the U.S.
avoided corporate taxes over the same period.

Corporations are not supposed to pay taxes - or not much, anyway. That is the point. Taxation occurs after the money is passed to the shareholders. Even a little one-man-band S Corp does its best to make sure every penny gets passed to the single shareholder, the owner.

The 1/3 of the corporations from your statistic either paid a tiny amount of tax, maybe because they made too much and could not effectively get it to the shareholders or spend it, or had a bunch of stupid accountants.

I think the tax deductible money corporations spent writing the tax code has paid dividends. I'm still high on the government economic stimulus I received earlier this year. Hoping for another government hit before Christmas.
