I haven’t been to a movie in so long that I can’t remember the last one I went to. Borat, maybe? But last weekend Sluggo and I went with a friend to see W. Our friend hated it, but we thought it was okay. It wasn’t the serious documentary our friend apparently wanted it to be, and it wasn’t a point-at-the-monkey laugh riot either. I thought the music editing was brilliant, and I thought the complete absence of Neil Bush was bizarre. If all you knew about the Bush family came from this movie, you would not even know that Neil Bush exists, even though you would know about Marvin Bush, and who ever heard of him before? He never cost taxpayers $1 Billion by playing banker at the savings and loan.
I read in the Daily News that some white people may not vote for Barak Obama because they’re racists and don’t believe a black man is capable of straightening out the economy. But why not? It wasn’t black people who screwed it up. It was white Christian conservatives like George W. Bush who destroyed the entire world economy in just 8 years of unregulated “capitalism.” (And then, as soon as his white Christian conservative capitalist friends started losing money, he nationalized the banks.) It’s hard to see how a half-white Christian liberal could do any worse than that.
And how come the Republicans have quit talking about how Sarah Palin’s husband is mixed-race? He’s, like, a quadra-mo or an Eski-roon or something. But you never hear about it anymore.
Today it came out that the Republican National Committee spent over $150,000 to make Palin and her family presentable for the campaign. I can’t believe they spent so much to put lipstick on that pig! They could have been using that money for Cindy McCain’s botox. Then there’s the investigation into how Palin fired the Alaska Public Safety Commissioner because he wouldn’t fire her estranged brother-in-law: The investigation committee determined that Palin had abused her power and broken ethics laws. So then she started announcing at all her rallies that she’s relieved to have been “cleared of all wrong-doing.”
Somebody better tell the RNC to buy some more lipstick—they’ve got a lot to cover up.
Thanks for reading my blogpost this time, and may God bless.
Please tell me Pierce Bush made the cut.

Neil Bush was scheduled to dine at his home with John Hinckley, Jr.'s brother, Scott, the day after Hinckley's attempt on President Reagan's life. John Hinckley, Sr. had been one of George H. W. Bush's chief financial supporters in his primary bid against Reagan.
There's more to the Bush family than meets the eye, but Stone's movie was acceptable, I thought. Especially his portrayal of Condoleezza Rice. The actress who played her deserves at least seven Oscars.

Looking forward to Irwin's rebuttal assumes that he's willing to provide a constructive, fact-driven argument in favor of Palin or the Bush administration, in most cases people who have not half his smarts. He's only interested in being an incendiary, plus he likes Palin because he wants to bang her.

Oh yeah, you're also assuming that Irwin reads Bronwyn's blog posts; my guess is that he doesn't. And Bronwyn, you are no longer permitted to say "God bless," as the Republicans now own God. And patriotism.

Why is everyone harshing on Irwin? I love him. Plus, he's entitled to his opinion even if he's completely wrong. Let us hate hypocrisy and lies and the attack on our civil liberties, and not be hating our dear FMU friends and colleagues.
Thank you.

I think if you want Irwin to yield the aforementioned fact driven constructive endorsement and critique you would have to do likewise. IF's post is hardly that. What would that actually look like? You might start with Colin Powells endorsement here.

That sets the bar. Lib's or Pugs, can you match it?

For the record, "Lib" stands for Libertarian in my case, not Liberal. Liberals always want to play nice, not get personal or "harsh" on our friends or colleagues. Always keep it respectful and above-board (steal an election—no way man, that's not fair!) Well I've just about had it. I'm going to disown my right-leaning friends if and when President Palin takes office. Not enough Republicans are saying "Palin is an idiot," though she so clearly is. Kind of like the way not enough Muslims say "those terrorists over there are not us." Live and let live has typically been my philosophy, but it does not win elections, and we need this one, the whole fucking world needs this one.

K: Powell is a diplomat, and in that clip his fundamental talking points are the same ones many of us have been touching on since the nominations, only delivered with more eloquence and measured diplomacy: Today's Republican Party is too far right; McCain does not have an economic plan; Obama is more intelligent and inclusive; the McCain campaign is focusing on non-issues and playing dirty pool; Palin is a poor choice. I for one would have been happy to have McCain as President 4 or 8 years ago, but things have changed a lot since then, and McCain's approach has changed tremendously. Can we have Irwin on the podium now?

Greedy politicians caused the current economic problems. It's a little too convenient for Sen Obama to blame Republicans and a little too convenient for Sen McCain to blame Democrats; of course they are going to do that, because they each want to win the election. The truth is that the people who caused this mess come from both parties. It's also a little too convenient for politicians to blame Wall Street, but why should we be surprised that the greedy politicians who created the sub prime mortgage mess want to implicate someone else? After all, the politicians used the sub prime mortgage to build their careers and make ridiculous amounts of money; it worked once and, when it eventually drops out of the American consciousness, they will call it something else and use it to make money and careers again.
Of greater importance is this. There are ugly things happening in America, most reported only at the local level: people are being physically attacked for their political beliefs, property is being destroyed, threats of future violence and civil disorder are being made. I have seen many heated presidential campaigns, but nothing compares to this. Look for these stories in the press and discover who the goon squads are attacking, then vote for the candidate whose supporters are being terrorized. Look for these stories. They exist. They are beginning to form a pattern. And unless we stop them, America is lost.

Colin Powell is a liar and a war criminal - not a "diplomat!" And Obama will be a war criminal in Afghanistan almost immediately upon taking office:

They're not generally white Christian conservatives. Most aren't Christians, they're Mammonists. Nevertheless, excellent observation. Said almost the same thing to myself one day, "what, they're nationalizing the banks?" The economy and how the government's handling things is straight out of Monty Python.
