Just a few hours ago I had the pleasure to see a one-off concert by Fred Frith and Pavel Fajt in Berlin, followed by a screening of the great avant-documentary Step Across The Border from 1990. This film by Nicolas Humpert and Werner Penzel is about Fred Frith, his music, his collaborators and much more. Not a portrait, it really captures the free-flowing improvisatory quality of the music on film. I don't have pictures or audio from the show, but here is a wonderful excerpt of the film, featuring Fred Frith, Iva Bittova, and Pavel Fajt.

Nicolas Humpert also screened a short excerpt of his current project with the French band Das Kapital, and he announced that a DVD will be out in a couple of weeks or so. The excerpt featured his daughter eating a melon to the music of The Internationale, and the whole thing promises to be fantastic.
Wow -- that is cool.

I've been looking for the Across the Border soundtrack, but am having a hell of a time finding it. Any chance WFMU could give me a hand?
