Out of the strange magic world that seems to be the Ridgewood/Glen Rock area of New Jersey (think VivGrrlz, Titus Andronicus, Real Estate, Liquor Store, Ducktails, Fluffy Lumbers, and Frat Dad), comes a newish project that is really making me just go coconut-cuckoo clocks-crazy pants! Yes, Big Troubles is making me swoon hard right now with louder than you'd imagine fuzzy alt-pop tunes.
Big Troubles is the result of the collaboration between two long-time bros: Alex Craig and Ian Drennan. The two have cited their influences as being old Flying Nun Records releases and tons of stuff from '90's alterna-pop and indie. To me they sound like if Guided By Voices ate Teenage Fanclub... after listening to a bunch of My Bloody Valentine. Dudes rule. If you ask them point-blank they'll tell you they have a lot of "less cool" influences and kind of blush before listing, "Smashing pumpkins, Oasis, Nirvana...", but hey, I don't know when the 90's stopped being cool... never in my book. I'll jam some Oasis while wearing some Doc Martens and a babydoll dress any day and I'll look hella phat doing it.
That white Fender Jazzmaster is absolutely beautiful.
