Jack Sheldon is a trumpet player best known as the band leader on The Merv Griffin Show and as the voice of School House Rock's Bill on Capitol Hill. He put out this unique comedy album in the early sixties showcasing his musician's sensibility. One of several jazz musicians to put out comedy records, this might be the best of the lot. Listen to the whole record, The Weird, Wonderful, Wigged Out Wit of Jack Sheldon, here.
My first awareness of Jack Sheldon was as the protagonist in a short-lived mid-60s sitcom called RUN, BUDDY, RUN. I think he was on the run from the mob or some such baddies and the show was a sort of comedic take on the Fugitive. Later, I remember him in the band on the daytime Merv Griffin talk show when Arthur Treacher was Merv's Ed McMahon.

really great. I wonder if he ever really put out the book he mentions that was a humorous take on jazz history or if that was just the set up for the jokes
