On The Long Rally Tuesday morning, Scott McDowell welcomes Dawn of Midi, the idiosyncratic trio whose debut, First, was described in Accretions as "a beautifully warped example of what a piano trio can do." Dawn of Midi's musicians are based in New York and Paris; they hail from Morocco, Pakistan, and India.

San Francisco's Pleasure Kills will enhance the Evan "Funk" Davies Show with a live set of spirited power-pop on Wednesday 8/4, from 9 PM to midnight. The Pleasure Kills have a great album, Bring Me A Match, out now on the Polypore label and you can see them this week at the Cake Shop (8/2) or the Brighton Bar in Long Branch, NJ (8/5). Hooray!

On Thursday in the early morning, Awesome New Place features an extended set from Chris Kucinski and Owen Osborn, who compose and mix using custom-built electronics. They are going to bring six of Osborn's "Recorder Machines" to the studio on which to improvise. Look at some of the other inventions here. Billy Jam, on the eve of the US DMC Finals, will present a special show featuring Grand Wizzard Theodore, inventor of the scratch -- as well as many others, including the current US DMC champion, DJ Shiftee.
