WFMU recently started up a Listener Meet-Up Group in an attempt to bring together fans of good music and good radio for some good old-fashioned social interaction and extra-curricular fun.
We want to hang out with you and embark upon exciting, enlightening, and debaucherous adventures in the metro NYC area. Most events will revolve around independent music, intellectual endeavors, and weirdo/offbeat culture.
The first meet-up event happens Monday, July 11th (5-9pm) at the new Washington Heights (Manhattan) community book shop, Word Up. We'll check out a reading by comic artists, poets, and fiction writers -- including WFMU DJs/writers Kurt Gottschalk, Amanda Nazario, and Bronwyn Carlton! Hit this page for more details and to RSVP.
The plan:
5pm - Meet at Word Up (4157 Broadway, at 176th St, Manhattan) for some snacks/drinks, and to socialize with FMUers.
6-9pm - Hang out for the reading (details below). Be enlightened.
9pm onward - Saunter off to neighborhood dive Reynolds Cafe/Bar (4241 Broadway, at 180th St, Manhattan) for more liquid refreshment.
Details about the reading:
Featuring Washington Heights-based publishers Kaboom! Press and Fractious Press, plus WFMU DJs. Kaboom! artists include Mike Diana, Carlo Quispe, Caitriona Ni Threasaigh, and the work of Dublin-based artist Joakim Saflund. Fractious fiction writer Buzz Poole, poet/tinselartist K. Abigail Walthausen, and poets Steve Hann, Thera Webb, and Nikkiesha N. McLeod will be in the house. Plus, WFMU DJs/fiction writers Kurt Gottschalk, Amanda Nazario, and Bronwyn Carlton.
