I was mocked for renting the Adam and the Ants video collection by a fellow musician after they had passed into being slightly embarrassing in the early nineties when "authenticity" was prized. I found them then (and now) to be musically adventurous and inventive performers. I associated their look with the early glam era when being outrageous was the point. Most often glam is illustrated with smooth shots of Bowie but if you look hard you can see lots of missed marks and cobbled together ideas in the images from the era, a kind of alternative art history.
