Real quick: Somewhat relative to my post on Henry Miller from a couple weeks back, here's an excerpt of Vonnegut reading his Breakfast Champions. This originally appeared on the appropriately-titled Kurt Vonnegut Reads Breakfast of Champions (Caedmon, 1979), which presented an abridged version of the novel itself, as brought to life by the author's stringy Hoosier twang. The whole LP's interesting, of course -- to me, anyway -- but the introduction here is at least amusing. Also noteworthy: His readings of Cat's Cradle and Welcome to the Monkey House, released on LP in '73 and '74, respectively.
I absolutely dote on the Caedmon Cat's Cradle recording. Vonnegut actually sang a few of Bokonon's calypsos as part of the performance.
