The Varitone was an effects unit marketed for Sax, Flute and Clarinet use, starting in 1967. I'd never heard of it until picking up this seven inch, 33 1/3 RPM demonstration record a short while ago. I was underwhelmed by the sound of the thing, and was surprised to find that it was fairly well known in its day, looked fairly goofy attached to the side of an instrument, and proved popular with a number of musicians.
But all of that was presumably in the future when the Selmer company produced this promotional record, which I would guess came out at the same time as the product itself. Sorry about the beat-up quality of the record - it came to me in that condition...
Please enjoy the Varitone!
